Rabbi Steven Moss

Chaplain

Rabbi Steven Moss has served the B'nai Israel Reform Temple in Oakdale, NY since 1972. He has proudly served the Suffolk County Police Department as a Chaplain since 1986 and holds the rank of Chief of Chaplains. He is also Chaplain to the Police Association of Suffolk County, the Suffolk County Chief of Police Association, the Police Benevolent Association, the Superior Officers Association, and the Police Reserves of Suffolk County.

Rabbi Moss is also a chaplain to many local hospitals and nursing homes representing the New York Board of Rabbis. He has served as Chairperson for the Suffolk County Human Rights Commission since 1992, and Founder and Co-Chairperson of the Suffolk County Anti-Bias Task Force. Rabbi Moss is the Founder and Director of STOPBIAS, the only educational program for bias crimes in Suffolk County.

Rabbi Moss is a member of the Islip Town Board of Ethics and is Chairperson of the Center for Social Justice and Human Understanding located on the campus of Suffolk Community College.

Rabbi Moss enjoys cycling and traveling. He is a student of Kabbalah, Jewish Mysticism, and his passion is studying the metaphysical texts of Kabbalah and translating Maavor Yabok. Rabbi Moss is also a recipient of numerous awards including Chaplain of the Year and Rabbi of the Year from the New York Board of Rabbis.
