Butch Langhorn

Butch Langhorn was born and raised in Riverhead, New York. After high school, in 1964 he enlisted in the U.S. Army, spending six years enlisted including a 14 month tour in Vietnam.

After being separated from the Army in 1970, Butch returned home and found employment in a clothing boutique called the "Hole In The Wall." In 1972 he ended up purchasing the “Hole in the Wall” with a partner. Butch stayed in the clothing business until 1974 at which time he sold his half of the store and reenlisted in the Air Force. Butch decided to make a career of the Air Force. He retired from the Air Force in May, 1999, at the grade of E-9, Chief Master Sergeant.

After retiring from the Air Force in 1999, Butch became the Leader of the Democratic Party in Riverhead for 12 years. During this time he was also employed by 2 congressmen in the 1st Congressional District, Congressman Michael Forbes and then Congressman Timothy Bishop. When Vincent DeMarco ran and won the Sheriff seat for the County, he offered Butch the Assistant to the Sheriff’s position. When Sheriff DeMarco retired and the current sheriff, Sheriff Errol D. Toulon Jr. asked if Butch would stay, he accepted the invitation.
